Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has flagged off the distribution of food palliative support to vulnerable households across the state to ease the impact of economic hardship during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a gesture of inclusiveness, the initiative also targets the Christian community in recognition of the ongoing Lenten season.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Governor emphasized the shared values of charity, empathy, and sacrifice during both Ramadan and Lent, urging citizens to promote peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.
“Since assuming office in 2019, we have consistently rolled out Ramadan palliative programmes to support our people during the fasting period. Today, I am pleased to continue this noble initiative, reaffirming our commitment to ensure that no member of our society is left behind,” the Governor said.
The programme targets 70,000 beneficiaries, including persons living with disabilities, religious organizations, orphanages, party support groups, and other vulnerable members of society.
Governor Yahaya also called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability throughout the distribution process.
He further encouraged citizens to pray for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and for Nigeria’s security, unity, and stability.
The statewide distribution will involve all district heads across Gombe’s 11 local governments to ensure inclusiveness.
Alhaji Abdulkadir Mohammed Waziri, Chairman of the State Distribution Committee and Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, assured that the exercise would be conducted transparently.
Barrister Sani Ahmad Haruna, representing the 11 council chairmen, pledged full support to ensure the palliatives reach deserving beneficiaries.
The event’s highlight was the symbolic presentation of food items to selected beneficiaries, officially marking the commencement of the distribution across the state.
