An APC chieftain from Yamaltu-Deba LGA, Hon. Abbas Umar Nabingi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for introducing the Forest Guard initiative aimed at strengthening security across forest and border communities.
Speaking in Gombe, Nabingi described the programme as a timely intervention that will complement existing security efforts and curb criminal activities in vulnerable areas.
The initiative, which covers five states — Osun, Adamawa, Kwara, Kogi, and Gombe — will recruit and train local hunters and vigilante members to work alongside conventional security agencies.
He also appreciated the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and retired DCP Muhammad Ahmad Jarman Deba for their roles in enhancing security efforts.
Screening of about 650 applicants is currently ongoing at the Police Mobile Force base along Kwami Road, Gombe, and will run until February 27, 2026. Successful candidates will undergo two months of intensive training in Osun State before deployment.
Beneficiaries have expressed gratitude, describing the programme as a valuable opportunity to serve their communities and promote peace.
The Forest Guard initiative is expected to boost grassroots security and improve coordination between local vigilantes and formal security agencies across Gombe’s 114 political wards.
