The National Islamic Centre NIC of the Muslim Ummah Movement Zaria wants Muslims social media users and influencers to verify messages and contents before posting or making comments.
In a communique co-signed by the NIC National Amir, Professor Muhammad Babangida and the communique drafting committee Chairman Mustafa Ibrahim said the Centre will continue to monitor government policies and programmes as well as collaborate with sister Islamic Organisations in defending Muslims
interests through lawful means.
The NIC convention with the theme, the Role of Muslims in Nation Building: Challenges and Opportunities, drew 413 participants from 12 States and the FCT, featured two paper presentations
The communique maintains that the Movement will continue to uphold the principles of promoting guidance, establishing truth and inculcating into the youth moral and behaviour change with a view to reform and develop the society.
It calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
to replace the INEC Chairman, Prof. Amupitan with a more
credible person as well as halt the plan to re-
validate voters card but continue with the ongoing registration of errors on voters’ cards and replacement of
damaged ones.
According to the communique, Political office holders are elected to provide good governance, institutionalised
transparency, accountability and public trust hence to fulfil all their campaign promises to earn trust and confidence of electorates.
The communique, while charging Islamic organisations to promote redistributive tools like Zakat, endowments, patronage of interest-free financial programmes
and risk-sharing opportunities to reduce the level of poverty in the society, encourages Ummah branches to explore and key into the opportunities provided by Islamic finance institutions as well as create skills development initiatives in order to empower Muslim youth, women and vulnerable groups.
Meanwhile, declaring the event open, Chairman of the occasion Professor Musa Muhammad Borodo called on Muslim Umma to be more proactive in worshipping Allah as enshrined in the holy Quran and the Hadith.
Professor Musa also urged Muslims to make use of their opportunities to contribute towards the development of their religion.
On his part the NIC National Amir Professor Muhammad Babangida mentioned some of the issues that ignited religious crises to include social media fake news and advised all stakeholders to champion the cause of building Islam and Muslim Umma.
Professor Babangida identified weakness in faith and unity among Muslims as some of the factors that hinder development called for the change of attitude.
Radio Nigeria observed that the convention also features goodwill messages from representative of the Taraba State governor Dr.Agbu Kefas, the state’s Chairman of Imams, Dr. Sa’adanu Lawan Bantaje and his Shura counterpart Dr. Tijjani Usman Karofi.
