Gombe Zakah and Waqf Foundation Empowers Women, Distributes Over N2 Million to Needy

The Gombe Zakah and Waqf Foundation has empowered women and distributed over two million naira to vulnerable members of the community in Gombe.

Chairman of the foundation, Dr. Abdullahi Abubakar Lamido, made this known during a distribution and empowerment ceremony organised for women trained in various vocational skills.

Dr. Lamido said the foundation was established to promote philanthropy, strengthen the local economy and alleviate poverty through the application of Islamic teachings on charity and social support.

He explained that the organisation, which has been in existence for eight years, has continued to carry out humanitarian activities including the collection and distribution of zakah to the needy, empowerment programmes for women and scholarship support for youths.

The chairman added that the foundation also provides iftar meals to orphans, hospitals and mosques during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to him, the ceremony featured the graduation of the eighth batch of eighty women trained in different vocational skills, the admission of a ninth batch of trainees, as well as the graduation of ninety Zakah ambassadors.

Dr. Lamido further revealed that over two million naira in zakah was distributed to vulnerable members of the community during the event.

The ceremony was attended by Islamic scholars, traditional leaders and other dignitaries.

Some beneficiaries who spoke during interviews expressed appreciation to the foundation, describing the support as timely and impactful.
