The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Gombe State office, has held a stakeholders’ meeting to review progress and mobilize support for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Speaking shortly after the meeting, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, said the forum was organised to update political parties, civil society organisations, and other groups on the exercise taking place at state and local government offices of the commission.
He disclosed that only about 4,000 people registered in four weeks across the state, while over 62,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain uncollected. Dr. Idris urged eligible voters to take advantage of the CVR and advised stakeholders to intensify voter education, noting that the responsibility should not rest on INEC alone.
The REC further appealed for maximum support from political parties, NGOs, and traditional institutions to ensure a successful registration process and stronger democratic participation.
In a goodwill message, delivered on behalf of the Emir of Gombe, Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, Dr. Sani Jauro pledged the emirate’s commitment to raising awareness across communities.
Speaking for the participants, Malam Muhammadu Garba assured INEC of stakeholders’ readiness to support the exercise.
