The recent approval by Governor Dikko Radda for the elevation of district heads across the Katsina and Daura Emirates to the rank of Director on Grade Level 16, while village heads were upgraded to Grade Level 10 in the state have been described as a landmark decision that would go a long way in improving the welfare of traditional institutions in the state.
The Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello made the remark while answering questions from newsmen at the Government House, Katsina, shortly after the presentation of promotion letters to the district and village heads.
The traditional ruler, who’s also the Patron of the Katsina State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, observed that the decision would also strengthen the critical role of the traditional institutions in promoting peace and facilitating the implementation of government policies and programmes.
Similarly, the Kauran Katsina District Head of Rimi Alh Aminu Nuhu, who represented the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, expressed appreciation to the state government for the gesture.
He gave the assurance that the traditional institutions would continue to support government initiatives, adding that increased responsibility comes with greater expectations.
During the presentation of the promotion letters, the state governor, explained that the decision aligns with the newly approved Katsina State Emirate Law, recently passed by the State House of Assembly, which provides for the upgrading of district and village heads.
He noted that the traditional institution rulers remain the closest link between government and the people, adding that their contributions have continued to support development at the grassroots.
