UNICEF Hands Over Child Nutrition Commodities to Bauchi Government

The Bauchi Field Office of the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF has handed over Child Nutrition Fund commodities to the Bauchi State Government to strengthen efforts aimed at preventing and treating child malnutrition.

The supplies include Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food and Small Quantity Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplements procured through a matching grant arrangement between UNICEF and the state government.

Receiving the items the State Deputy Governor, Mohammad Auwal Jatau, said the intervention would help in addressing severe acute malnutrition among children.

He explained that the state government had deposited eight hundred and sixty-two million naira into the Basket Fund through the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Board to support health programmes for pregnant women and children.

Presenting the commodities, the UNICEF Chief of Field Office in Bauchi state Dr Nuzhat Rafique, said the supplies were procured through joint contributions from local governments, the state government and UNICEF.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Sani Dambam, said UNICEF handed over four thousand, five hundred and sixty-two cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food and fifteen thousand, four hundred and nineteen cartons of Small Quantity Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplements to support the treatment and prevention of malnutrition among children in the state.
