Katsina State Expands Solar Energy Capacity to Tackle Power Supply Challenges

The Katsina State Government has approved the establishment of a Peace-Building Committee and a new recruitment policy for Non-Governmental and International Development Organisations operating in the state.

The approvals were granted during the 3rd Regular Meeting of the Katsina State Executive Council for 2026, held at the Government House and presided over by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, said the decisions are part of the administration’s efforts to promote inclusive governance, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.

The Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Falalu Bawale, said the Council approved the implementation of recommendations from a High-Level Consultation on Security and Governance earlier convened by the Governor. He explained that the recommendations provide a roadmap for peace, security, and progress in Katsina State, including the establishment of a Peace-Building Committee.

On development partnerships, the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Development Management Board, Dr. Mustapha Shehu, announced the approval of a new recruitment policy for NGOs and INGOs. According to him, the policy prioritises qualified indigenes and residents of Katsina State, ensures transparency in recruitment, and strengthens coordination between development partners and the state government.

He added that all organisations will now operate in line with civil service rules and the new guidelines, to promote fairness, job creation, and long-term sustainability.

In the energy sector, the Special Adviser on Power and Energy, Mr. Hafiz Ahmed, disclosed that the Council approved the installation of a 500 kilowatt-peak solar power system with a 2 megawatt-hour battery storage facility for public buildings. He said the project will improve energy security, reduce costs, and ensure uninterrupted power supply to critical government facilities.

The Katsina State Government says the decisions reaffirm Governor Radda’s commitment to people-centred governance, local capacity development, and sustainable energy solutions.
