FG suspends, to restructure N-power programme

Written by Jewel FM Gombe

The federal government has suspended the NPower programme temporarily.

The action, according to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, was to conduct a comprehensive examination and restructuring due to a range of issues and discrepancies observed within the scheme.

The N-Power program, initiated by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, aims to address youth unemployment and promote social development.

During an interview on TVC News on Saturday, Edu emphasised that the suspension was temporary and would continue until a thorough investigation into the programme’s operations and the proper utilisation of funds was completed.

She underscored the importance of gaining a clear understanding of the program’s current participants, outstanding payments, and the extent of restructuring required to enhance its effectiveness.

Furthermore, the minister also raised concerns about the consultants responsible for managing the programme and the reasons certain funds were not disbursed to deserving individuals.

These challenges will be addressed as part of the comprehensive restructuring efforts, she added.
