Army rescues abducted students of Federal University Gusau

Written by Jewel FM Gombe

Operatives of the joint task force “Operation Hadarin Daji” (OPHD) have intercepted the abductors of female students of Federal University, Gusau (FUG), who were kidnapped in the early hours of Friday.

Radio Nigeria correspondent attached to OPHD reports that troops, provided aerial support by the Nigeria Air Force (NAF), traced the kidnappers to a thick forest and engaged them in a gun duel.

According to sources embedded with the military, six of the abducted students have so far been rescued, with scores of the Bandits killed, and several rifles, motorcycles and other items recovered.

The rescue operation was triggered following the abduction of the students from their rented hostels at Sabon gida village in Gusau.

Residents of villages around the forest who spoke to our reporter said fighter jets could be seen hovering around the forest. They also reported hearing sounds of heavy gunfire or explosives – indicating a fierce fire-fight.

Reports say a large number of armed bandits had, earlier this morning, stormed the Sabon-Gida community located within the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where many students from the Federal University, Gusau, reside off-campus, and abducted an unspecified number of females.
